I HATE CROSSWORD PUZZLES! My mind — when it is working — just doesn’t work that way; but I do also greatly admire the human mind who routinely does the New York Times Crossword puzzle every weekend without fail in an hour or so without reference books! But here you will find over a 100 puzzles which will occupy your time — and excite your imagination on your next trip by plane, train, automobile or hansom cab to the next scion meeting, dinner or conference weekend. Some are relatively easy, while others are obscure, but all will be fun, if you are inclined in the direction of words and their definitions. Herr Izban’s observations on Crosswords and the Author are penetrating and profound! Churchill’s marginalia illustrations which accompany the puzzles are well worth a page by page examination by the prospective owner and a leisurely turn beside the fire by the aficionado. Also available in Hardcover $42.00 FRANKLIN B. SAKSENA, M.D., C.M., F.A.C.P., F.R.C.P.(C), F.A.C.C., is a senior attending physician in Adult Cardiology at Cook County Hospital, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University and has a part time private practice in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. He was educated in England and Canada. He obtained his medical degree at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada and currently lives in the Chicago area. He enjoys teaching physical diagnosis to medical students and residents and endeavors to apply Holmesian deductions to bedside diagnosis. Doyle reminds us of the importance of simple observation as well the importance of the absence of findings (e.g. the failure of the dog to bark in Silver Blaze). Dr. Saksena became a member of the Criterion Bar Association in 1981 and has been devising Sherlockian crossword puzzles since 1992.
