Dedicated into service at the end of September 1931, the Ontario C.P.R. Dental Car is shown here in January of 1932 sharing a siding in Northern Ontario with the smaller C.P.R. School Car #1. Dental services were provided to the many isolated communities in Northern Ontario, and in particular along the Canadian Pacific Railway from west of Sudbury to the Ontario/Manitoba border. This book is an account of the start-up by the Ontario Department of Health to provide dental services to the many isolated communities in Northern Ontario, and in particular along the Canadian Pacific Railway. Artist Bio:

David C. Brownlow came on the Dental Car as a baby in January 1933, and stayed until his parents left in January 1935. Somehow this period living on a railroad car gave him a lifelong interest in railroads.

David graduated from Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto in 1956, and retired in 1991 after 35 years in the municipal engineering field. During that time David wrote and presented at conferences several technical papers on municipal engineering topics as well as edited a technical municipal works transportation design manual.

Since retirement he has pursued the background information on the Dental Car, with many hours spent at the Archives of Ontario and the Toronto Reference Library, as well as other sources.
